Ciao and welcome to 'Italian with Anna'

I'm guessing you're visiting this page as you have an interest in Italian language and/or culture?
If so, you've come to the right place as 'Italian with Anna' is about combining these together in a fun and interesting way.

'Italian with Anna' is not a 'fast-track' method of learning, it's actually quite the opposite. It's a weekly dose of live Italian online sessions where we learn vocabulary and grammar as well as learning about Italian culture, all done in a light-hearted manner.

'It’s about taking your time to learn and enjoy over time without any pressure or deadlines. 'Italian with Anna' is open to anyone.'

Topics include the basics such as greetings, numbers, colours, the touristy stuff such as directions, booking a table and lots more. We look at recipes, news articles, TV shows, songs, sports,  all sorts!
All you need is a very basic level of English and you certainly don't have to be 'good at languages'.

A little bit about me

I am half Maltese and half English and so was lucky enough to be exposed to another language (Maltese – though I don’t speak it!) from a very young age – perhaps this is what kindled my love of languages.

After completing a BA Hons (Combined) in French & Italian at Lancaster University in 1996, I then went on to work in international sales (seafood – random – but got to use my languages ) before doing a PGCE in secondary teaching and then teaching French, Italian (and dance!) for 10 years.

A change of career followed, still in education and still involving language, as an advisor to schools supporting them to cater for pupils with English as an Additional Language (EAL). This work (which I still do) involves enabling pupils to access the curriculum whilst learning English, for example learning science via English as well as English via science.

This work continues to influence how I teach Italian, as having a focus as to why you’re learning a language underpins my philosophy. For example, you may wish to understand a recipe in Italian, ask directions, speak to someone about gardening or learn how to sing and chant in an Italian football stadium! The possibilities are endless!
